CHALLENGEEach year, the Atlantic Council’s Freedom and Prosperity Center releases two major indexes that measure levels of freedom and prosperity across the globe. Until 2023, each index lived on its own standalone site, fragmenting the experience and limiting users' ability to cross-reference data. The challenge was to unify the experience and create a single platform that not only visualized both indexes clearly but also allowed for regional comparison and deeper analytical insights.

APPROACH
  • Proposed and implemented a combined platform for both indexes to reduce fragmentation and improve usability.
  • Introduced a new Comparison view to allow users to explore patterns between countries and regions.
  • Designed a visual system centered on symbolic forms: a circle for Prosperity, and a diamond for Freedom, establishing a branded visual language across the experience.

ROLE
  • Led the interaction and visual design of the site, crafting a balance between institutional trust and exploratory clarity.
  • Developed the UX for the comparison tool and country-level views
  • Developed branding elements and shape-based motifs that distinguish the indexes while uniting them under one visual identity.

SOLUTIONA responsive web platform that offers:
  • Integrated access to both the Freedom and Prosperity Indexes.
  • A Comparison view that supports cross-country and regional exploration.
  • Custom visual branding that reinforces the distinct but interrelated nature of the two indexes.

IMPACTThe new platform transforms a static report into a living analytical tool. By enabling users to draw connections between freedom and prosperity across nations, the site supports educators, journalists, policymakers, and the public in understanding how human rights and economic wellbeing intersect on a global scale.
